An introduction to computer hardware and software used in graphic design and the visual arts.
223. Digital Imaging, 3 hours, Fall
An introduction to digital imaging used in graphic design; image capturing, adjusting, manipulating, and output.
Prerequisite: ART 113.
233. Graphic Design I, 3 hours, Spring
Basic design principles are applied to projects exploring resources, conceptual principles, and proceduresunderlying the practice of graphic design, in particular, the process of problem solving. An emphasis is placed on typography as a medium and message of design.
Prerequisite: ART 113.
243. Graphic Design II, 3 hours, Fall even years
The development of layout concepts emphasizing the integration of typography and visual imagery. Students develop more sophisticated abilities through problem-solving activities geared to increasing graphic design awareness and skills, as well as a general understanding of production through computer enhanced design and the designer-client roles and responsibilities.
Prerequisite: ART 233.
323. Interactive Media, 3 hours, Spring odd years
An introduction to interactive multimedia used in graphic design.
Prerequisites: ART 223.
343. Graphic Design III, 3 hours, Fall odd years
Introduction to corporate and packaging design fundamentals. Conceptualization and development ofentire programs, including original logotypes and marks; applications to business forms, signage, vehicles, uniforms, and packaging; and preparation of a corporate design annual and/or interactive presentation.
Prerequisites: ART 243, 323.
453. Graphic Design IV, 3 hours, Spring even years
Advanced students focus on a variety of individual and sponsored projects. The student must present an entry-level portfolio demonstrating professional competence in design, concept, and craft with an emphasis on the student’s particular area of interest. The student must produce a resume, promotional materials and schedule interviews in the professional design community.
Prerequisite: ART 343.
463. Visual Communication Center I, 3 hours, Spring
Selected senior art/photography majors are chosen to create and produce campus and community projects. The VCC will service a variety of illustrative, photographic, and graphic design needs through printed and/or interactive media. Budgeting, client communication, and digital/print supervision are included as student responsibilities.
Prerequisites: ART 243 and faculty recommendation.
