This map shows the regions
of the world where Afrikaans is commonly spoken (red circle).
Afrikaans is a language that developed from European (Old Dutch)
settlers in South Africa. It is most closely related to modern
Dutch and Flemish.
It comes from the Germanic branch of Indo-European languages.
