This map shows the regions
of the world where Faroese is commonly spoken (red circle).
Faroese is descended from Old Norse. It is most closely related
to Norwegian and Icelandic.
The Faroe islands are now the property of Denmark,
so Danish influences in vocabulary are developing in modern
Faroese.
