This map shows the regions
of the world where Romanian is commonly spoken (red circle).
Romanian is the easternmost language in the Romance group and,
in terms of linguistic influence on other languages, one of
the least important. Ultimately, it traces its roots to the
Italic branch of Indo-European, but it has loanwords from Bulgarian
Serbian, and Magyar. Romanian is most closely related to Romansch,
French, and Italian.
It is somewhat more distantly related to Spanish,
Provençal, Catalan,
Galician, and Portuguese.
