NORTH/NORTHEAST

Panther Creek State Park                                        Morristown, TN 

  Directions: From Carson-Newman take 11E towards Morristown.  Travel for approximately 5 miles.  You will see a BP gas station on the left; turn down the road next to the BP station.  You will continue down this road, after about 2 miles you will come to a sign for Panther Creek on the right side of the road, turn here. 

    Approximate Driving Time: Ten minutes 

    Times of Operation: Year Round-6 A.M.- Dark

    Highlights: There are many activities to be done at Panther Creek.  There is a playground, soccer fields, a volleyball court, and a swimming pool.  There are also walking trails, a mountain biking trail, a horse trail (must provide own horse), and several hiking trails.  The highlight of the hiking trails is one that takes you to the over look, where the hiker can cast a glance at the beautiful vistas of the rolling hills of Tennessee behind the Cherokee lake.  The lake is open for fishing and there is a boat launch available. There is also a camp ground for tents or RV’s with fire rings and a bath house.

Bays Mountain Park                                         Kingsport, TN 

Bays Mountain Park is located in Kingsport, Tennessee, just a few miles from downtown Kingsport.  The park itself is in the northeast end of the Bays Mountain formation. It includes a 44-acre lake and 3000 acres with 25 miles of trails.   

Recreation opportunities include hiking, fishing, educational programming for the public and schools, a planetarium with programs for $1.50 per person and observatory programs offered seasonally on Saturdays, and several visitor centers including a Nature Center, Herpetarium, Farmstead Museum, Raptor Center, Waterfowl Aviary, and Watershed Room.
