What
in the World is Ecological Psychology?

"I went to the woods
because I wished to live
deliberately,
to front only the essential facts of
life, and see
if I could not learn what it had
to teach,
and not, when I came to die,
discover that I had not
lived.
I wanted to live deep and
suck all the marrow of life..."
--Henery David Thoreau

In Ecological
Psychology, we explore the interconnections of behavior and our social and
natural ecosystems.
Some of the questions
we will address:
·
Who am I? What
are my psychological connections with the Earth Community?
·
Why do I think
and act in ways that harm the Earth, my one and only habitat?
·
What are the
connections between exploiting the Earth and racism, sexism, classism, militarism,
and violence?
·
How can I more
effectively foster sustainable, environmentally responsible behavior in
myself, my community, and society?
The planet does not need more successful people.
But it does desperately need more peacemakers,
healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of every kind.
It needs people who live well in their places.
It needs people of moral courage willing to join in the fight
to make the world habitable and humane.
