The Interview Process

The Department of Education for the State of Tennessee requires that each teacher education program in the state conduct an entrance interview for all students pursuing teacher licensure.

Applications and all materials for admission to graduate studies in education should be submitted at least 60 days prior to the registration dates for the semester enrolling. Within two weeks after registration, entrance interviews will be held.

Please arrive ten minutes prior to your scheduled time and report to the School of Education office in the basement of the Stokely Cafeteria building room 32 to check in.

The interview committee will consist of two members.  The committee may ask you questions such as, “What experience have you had with children?”  “Tell us why you wish to become a teacher?”  “What perceived strengths do you have that will help you be an effective teacher?”  The interview committee will evaluate you based on your motivation to be a teacher; self-awareness and confidence; and the quality of your resume, which will be evaluated for expression of ideas, technical quality, and completeness.  Please be sure to bring your resume with you. The entrance interview is part of the admission requirement for the graduate studies program; therefore, it is necessary that you keep this scheduled appointment.  Please feel free to call our office if you have any questions or concerns.
